Some thoughts on Community Care and varying price points.
I believe Community care is where it’s at.
I offer a few different ways to work with me but I want to tell you how I have designed the payment structures for my business. This is written with love so please take a moment to read and consider these ideas. I believe that the wellness and coaching communities have a tendency to price things in a way that makes it inaccessible to the people that need it most and it is part of my anti-capitalist approach to business to change that. (Thanks to Bear Hebert and their work for helping me with this)
To give you context: I do not have a “team”. I take everything from concept to completion by myself. With the exception of graphics which I contract out because I do not know how to make them so I will gladly pay Carmen at Pink Kloud Creative to make amazing images for me. I am a visual person and I need that anchor of great graphics. Everything else I do by myself. From website pages to payment links. The newsletters and social media promotion. The design and creation of the prompts. Facilitation of the group where I read and reply to every word posted or sent to me because I have been in courses where you never hear from the facilitator again after they take your money. I do this because I love it and because people need witness and it is my intention to offer the best possible care I can.
I live by myself in a city that is consistently named one of the top three most expensive cities in the world and it’s just me. My cat is not working. There is no family wealth, assets, or spouse to share the monetary load and there are many things I would love to be a part of that are outside of my budget. Most people have budgets. That is our reality.
As a creative, for most of my life I made between $30000 + $60,000 a year. For the entirety of my online business I have given a portion back to community and a portion to support independent and creative businesses. The rest goes to things like rent, dental work, vet bills, paying off debt, ever increasing living expenses, equating love with money and recovery expenses from health challenges while still actively seeking care for myself. I need money to live and I love having money but I have not built up a safety net yet. I also have business expenses of website, zoom, email marketing program etc.
If this makes you uncomfortable to read that’s ok.
We need to talk more about our finances, especially as middle aged women, femmes and non binary folk. Staying quiet is what the patriarchy wants and much of the “success” of the online coaching world that preaches women’s “empowerment” is built entirely with spousal support and manipulative vulnerable makeover stories. So please keep reading!
When we redistribute our income and share what we have and what is here, we make for the livable lives of others. If you are a human with financial stability and you want to contribute to community care, or my care, in your own way donations can be sent via PayPal HERE
It is so appreciated by myself and my community.
If you are here, you are familiar with my body of work , or have been recommended by someone who is, and you know what I stand for and what I am committed to. One of my commitments is to make this a fabulous and fun experience for you. Money is not an indication of worth or value like society wants us to believe. At every level, all of us benefit. Remember that my course are free of judgment and shame - because the patriarchy and our ableist culture loves to judge and shame us - and accessible pricing is the start of un-programming that.
I offer different ways to join not because I don’t need money because we all need to make money. I do this as a way of making wellness accessible to everyone and as part of my ethics and commitment to an anti-capitalist business model. I would love to have you join with the least amount of financial stress for you and I trust and respect that only you know what that looks like.
If you have any questions please contact me!
To borrow a disclaimer from Randi Buckley: If you are interested in working with me because you feel manipulated, a fear of missing out, false scarcity, or that any hesitation you have is “just an excuse and means you don’t want it badly enough”, please do not join, as I don’t want to be a part of, or participate in, creating that experience for you, because it’s not true. That feeling is because wellness is usually predatory and manipulative and I am not.
Part of my way of honouring boundaries is that you feel respected from the very beginning.
Thank you for reading.
Live wild. Stay gold.
